Social Media Fuels 'Cash Mob Philly', Helps Small Businesses
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A Center City lawyer is using the power of social media to help fuel local businesses.
On Thursday evening, at 6:30pm, 'Cash Mob Philly' stormed into Manayunk and it was a good thing.
Organized by Shahrzad "Shaz" Kojouri, 'Cash Mob Philly' is an event planned through social media, specifically Twitter, to encourage people to support local businesses in order to help stimulate the local economy.
"Cash Mob Philly is about showing that local businesses have good deals, too, and the ripple effect from buying at a local business, who also supports the local economy, is huge. It's something I believe in," said Kojouri.
Cash Mob Philly's target for March 1st in Manayunk included Main Street Music and A.G. Jameson US Hotel Bar & Grill.
"We were really surprised. I follow small business stuff and have been reading about (cash mobs) for a while. When they reached out, we were just floored," said Jaime Blood of Main Street Music, who was "Super excited."
Kojouri plans on organizing one Cash Mob per month, setting her sights on Glenside for March 24th.
Kojouri and Cash Mob do not receive any profit from her effort, just the enjoyment of a good deed. For more information visit Cash Mob Philly's Twitter or Facebook pages.
