So What Did The Phillies Get For Jim Thome?
By Matt Leon
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The Phillies traded veteran Jim Thome over the weekend to the Baltimore Orioles. Only time will tell if this was the first move in the roster overhaul of a floundering team or simply a chance to move a player with limited value in the NL to an American League squad where he can DH.
In return for Thome, the Phillies received two prospects in catcher Gabriel Lino and right-hander Kyle Simon.
The 19-year-old Lino hit .218 in 56 games with the Single-A Delmarva Shorebirds and he is now a member of the Single-A Lakewood Blue Claws.
Simon is 21-years-old. He was just 2-8 with an ERA of 3.96 for Single-A Frederick at the time of deal. The Phillies placed him with Double-A Reading and in his R-Phils debut on Sunday, he pitched three strong innings in relief - allowing just one unearned run. Simon had been a starter this season during his time in the O's organization.
