Phila. Officials Say Snow Removal Operations Are Reaching Completion
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia's Streets Commissioner says more than 90 percent of Philadelphia's streets have been plowed and he expects to get close to the city's goal of having every through street clear by the end of today.
Streets Commissioner Donald Carlton says snow-lifting operations on small streets got temporarily sidetracked by the need to clear bus stops and walking paths so schools could re-open.
"There were about 230 locations that came to us yesterday afternoon and we modified our service to make sure children got to school safe and then we resumed our digging out of the streets across the city," said Carlton.
Still, Carlton says, nearly every residential street has had snow removed.
"And we'll be working through tomorrow just to make sure we get at that 100 percent," said Carlton.
