Small Plane Bound From Philadelphia Crashes Into Virginia Apartment Building
By Al Novack
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - An airplane originating out of Northeast Philadelphia Airport ran out of fuel over Herndon, Va. and crashed into an apartment building.
The pilot of the small, four-passenger plane tried to land at a local airport but never made it. Instead, the plane crashed through the roof and into the living room of an apartment unit inside a three-story building.
The two passengers were able to get out of the plane safely and even asked a man who was sleeping in an adjacent bedroom if he was okay.
Three people -- the pilot, a passenger, and one resident -- were checked out at a hospital for minor injuries.
Twenty residents of the building were evacuated as a precaution.
The plane was owned by an aerial photography company based in Vienna, Va.
