Small Boat Fire Under Ben Franklin Bridge Causes Smoke and Odor For Passersby
By John McDevitt and Kim Glovas
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- It was a spectacularly smoky fire late Thursday morning along the Delaware River, in the shadow of the Benjamin Franklin Bridge.
A 40-foot pleasure boat docked near Dave and Buster's, at the foot of Spring Garden Street, burned to the deckline.
Smoke and flames billowed from the cabin of the Maryland-registered "Sodfather," wedged in its berth between two other small boats that were not damaged.
Firefighters quickly got the upper hand. There were no immediate reports of injuries.
But there was a lot of smoke visible from the Ben Franklin Bridge and for miles around, and an odor similar to burning plastic.
