Slots Revenue Rises In Pennsylvania For 6th Straight Year
PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- State gambling regulators say gross revenue from slot machines was up 2.7 percent last year.
The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board said Thursday the state's 11 casinos brought in nearly $2.5 billion in gross revenue from slot machines in 2012. That's up from $2.4 billion in 2011.
Gaming board chairman William Ryan says it marked the sixth straight year of slots increases since Pennsylvania's first casino opened in November 2006. He says it shows Pennsylvania is doing well, even amid new competition from neighboring states.
The totals were boosted by revenue from the state's newest facility, Valley Forge Casino Resort, which brought in $36.5 million.
Presque Isle Downs Casino in Erie reported revenues that were down nearly 10 percent; it's facing new competition across the state line in Cleveland.
