Sixers Trade For Sam Young

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The Sixers have traded for Memphis Grizzlies forward/guard Sam Young. The Sixers will send 2005 second round pick Ricky Sanchez to Memphis in the deal.
The Sixers have needed a swing man type off the bench since moving Evan Turner to the starting lineup five games ago. The guard combination off the bench of Lou Williams and Jodie Meeks is both small, and a defensive liability. Young adds some size, at 6'6", and defense.
"We feel Sam's overall skill set can be a valuable asset to our team and he adds to our depth at two positions," Sixers President of Basketball Operations Rod Thorn said via press release.
Young, 26 years-old, is in his third year out of Pitt, where he was All Big East twice, and All American third team once. He's always been known as a hard worker, which should fit well under coach Doug Collins.
Young has averaged nearly 20 minutes and over seven points per game in his NBA career.
With the combination of Jrue Holiday, Andre Iguodala and Evan Turner just beginning to get extended minutes together, a major trade for the Sixers remains unlikely.
The NBA trade deadline is 3 pm today.
