Sixers Release Teaser Video For New Mascot To Be Unveiled Feb. 10
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Sixers re-branded a few years ago when they switched back to the red, white and blue color scheme and the classic basketball logo. The team said goodbye to the darker color scheme of the 'Iverson' era which included black and gold.
That era was also defined by a mascot named Hip Hop.
The brash bunny was the team's hype man who looked like his life revolved around cheering for the Sixers and lifting weights. Hip Hop was one of the casualties of the Sixers return to the old look.
On Friday, the Sixers released a teaser video, during their game against the Timberwolves, unveiling their plan to debut a new team mascot.
Fans will get their first full look at the new mascot on February 10th at 1:00 p.m. at The Franklin Institute. The Sixers have emphasized that the mascot was created "For Kids, By Kids."
The Sixers say that they engaged over 1,000 local children to get their opinions on what the new Sixers mascot should look like. The team has gone without a mascot for the last few seasons.
The ceremony at The Franklin Institute will be hosted by Sixers CEO Scott O'Neil and several members of the Sixers game day staff.
Not all the details of the new mascot can be seen in the teaser video, but it is clear that the new Sixers mascot will be some sort of big, blue and furry creature. It also seems like it enjoys bothering Sixers employees while they work.
