Sixers Pick Up Options On Wroten, Moultrie, Do Not Extend Turner
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The Sixers picked up third year options on forward Arnett Moultrie and guard Tony Wroten, the team announced on Friday.
Thursday was also the deadline for the Sixers to give an extension to former #2 overall pick Evan Turner. The team did not give Turner an extension, so he will become a restricted free agent at the end of the season.
Moultrie was acquired from the Miami Heat after he was drafted with the 27th pick of the first round in 2012. He averaged 3.7 points and 3.1 rebounds in 47 games of limited playing time for the Sixers last season. He is currently recovering from ankle surgery, and is expected back with the team by year's end.
Wroten was acquired from the Memphis Grizzlies prior to the season, and has impressed so far in the preseason and the regular season opener, providing energy and scoring off the bench for the Sixer.
Turner was selected with the second overall pick in 2010 by the Sixers, and has not lived up to expectations. This season will be a test for Turner, who must become a more efficient scorer, and play more within the offense to reach the potential that the Sixers, and most of the league thought he had coming out of Ohio State. The Sixers will have the right to match any offer another team gives Turner after this season if he remains on the Sixers.
