Sixers Pick Up Option On Doug Collins' Contract

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The Philadelphia 76ers have picked up the 2013-14 option on coach Doug Collins' contract.

Collins led the Sixers to the playoffs in his first two seasons with the team, including a run to the Eastern Conference semifinals last season.

Collins says he wants to stay with Sixers in a front office or consulting role when he's finished coaching.

The Sixers made him the No. 1 overall pick in the 1973 draft out of Illinois State. He also had coaching stops in Chicago, Detroit and Washington. He has a 408-359 record in 10 seasons.

"Doug Collins has repeatedly proven that he is one of the best head coaches in the NBA and we consider ourselves very fortunate to have him here in Philadelphia," said Sixers Managing Owner Josh Harris said via press release. "We look forward to Doug's continued leadership, passion and dedication to this organization and our fans, and know that he will work tirelessly in order to put our team in the best position to succeed every time they step on the court."
