Sixers Pick Up Anderson, Ohlbrecht Off Of Waivers
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The Houston to Philadelphia NBA pipeline has two more names to add to the collection.
The Sixers claimed shooting guard James Anderson, and center Tim Ohlbrecht off of waivers from the Houston Rockets.
Sixers general manager Sam Hinkie spent seven years with the Rockets organization, where he worked closely with Houston GM Daryl Morey. The Sixers completed a trade last week with the Rockets that sent 2012 first round pick Royce White, Turkish forward Furkan Aldemir to Philadelphia.
Anderson, a 24 year-old, 6'6" 215lb shooting guard, was a first round pick of the San Antonio Spurs in 2010. He spent 29 games with the Rockets last season after being cut by the Atlanta Hawks. He's a career 39% shooter in the NBA, and 39% from three, never averaging more than 11 minutes per game. In three years at Oklahoma State, Anderson averaged 17.9 points per game and shot 37.5% from three.
Anderson, if he plays well, could provide shooting to a Sixers team that currently has almost none on the roster. Winning a starting job might not be out of the question, if Evan Turner is still on the team and starts at small forward.
Ohlbrecht, 24 years old as well, is a 6'11" center out of Germany. He played only 12 minutes in three games with the Rockets last year, but averaged over 13 points and over seven rebounds per game in 34 games in the NBA D-League.
Contracts for both players are non-guaranteed.
