Sixers Announce Trades After Busy Deadline Day

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- If you are a follower of the Sixers, you were busy on Thursday. It was not clear exactly what the Sixers would do going into the NBA's Trade Deadline Day. Overall the team made three trades on deadline day that dramatically changed their makeup.
On Thursday night, the team announced the three deals.
The team announced that they acquired the Oklahoma City Thunder's protected 2015 first round pick, the Los Angeles Lakers protected 2015 first round pick and a 2015 second round pick from Houston.
The team also acquired point guard Isaiah Canaan from Houston, Center JaVale McGee from Denver along with the rights to Chukwudiebere Maduabum.
Now, to get on to what the team had to part with.
In the deal that sent the Sixers the Lakers protected first round pick, the team shipped out the reigning Rookie of the Year Michael Carter-Williams. The former Sixer is heading to Milwaukee in the multi-team deal.
The Sixers acquired Canaan and the second round selection from Houston in exchange for K.J. McDaniels.
McDaniels built a reputation as a highlight machine in his short stint with the Sixers. His ability to block shots was something that was unique for his position. However, McDaniels was due to become a free agent after this season after signing just a one-year deal after being drafted by the Sixers in 2014.
Sixers General Manager Sam Hinkie released the following statement regarding Carter-Williams and McDaniels:
"Michael and K.J. each brought their enormous talents with them to the Sixers. Once here, they both flourished within our player development program, which is a testament to their own work ethic and the dedication of our coaching staff.
"As we move forward, it is important that we continue to be aggressive in the ways in which we build our roster, and sometimes that includes making difficult decisions in order to further our goal of building something special for Philadelphia."
The first deal of the day for the Sixers landed them McGee and a first round pick from the Thunder that was owned by Denver. In that deal the Sixers sent the Nuggets the rights to Cenk Akyol.
