Sixers Announce New Slogan: Together We Build
By Spike Eskin
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – In what seems to be the most up front, honest piece of marketing I can remember, the Sixers have announced their new slogan for this season. "Together We Build," will be the campaign for this season.
Together We Build joins such gems as the post-Iverson "Run With Us," the Lou Williams inspired "Show Ya Luv," and the first campaign that the Sixers current ownership is responsible for, "Passionate, Intense, Proud."
The Sixers traded away their best player in the offseason, Jrue Holiday, to the New Orleans Hornets in exchange for Nerlens Noel and a future first-round draft pick. That, in addition to acquiring low-cost, young players in the off-season signaled a full-scale rebuild for the Sixers.
"The team's vision is great – to work toward a future we can all be proud of, that will unite the people of Philadelphia and inspire our youth to achieve more," Sixers CEO Scott O'Neil said in a press release. "We are at the foundation of our plan, but the Sixers will lean on one another as a team, taking the ideas and support of our fans and the passion of Philadelphia to press on toward our ultimate goal."
The Sixers opened training camp on Saturday, with very little assured as far as lineup composition and a potential rotation. The backcourt seems to be most wide open, with probably only Michael Carter-Williams and Evan Turner (as long as he's here), as players who are assured minutes.
The big story over the weekend was that Tony Wroten inspired the team after Spencer Hawes tweaked his knee. That says just about all you need to say about this year's team.
The Sixers plan is to rebuild with youth, and their slogan indicates that. Aside from "Winless For Wiggins," I'm not sure what else you can ask for.
