Six Children Suffer Minor Injuries In Del. School Bus Accident; Driver Cited For Improper U-turn
NEWARK, Del. (CBS) – Police in Newark are investigating an accident involving a school bus that sent several children to the hospital.
The crash occurred on Monday morning on Christina Parkway, just east of Elkton Road.
The school bus, operated by Advanced Student Transport, reportedly missed the turn for the school and attempted to make a U-turn from the right lane, putting it in the path of a 2013 VW Passat that was also traveling eastbound in the left lane.
The left front of the bus then impacted the right front side of the Passat.
Six children between the ages of five and nine sustained minor injuries and were taken to Christiana Hospital for evaluation and treatment.
The driver of the Passat, a 51-year-old female, was taken to Christiana Hospital for minor neck and arm injuries.
The bus driver, 59-year-old Joseph N. Walcott, was not injured during the collision. He was cited at the scene for making an improper U-turn.
The eastbound lanes of Christina Parkway were closed for about an hour due to the crash.
