Singer Natalie Cole Dead At 65

LOS ANGELES, Ca. (CBS) --  Singer Natalie Cole has died at the age of 65, CBS News is reporting.

The daughter of the legendary Nat "King" Cole died of congestive heart failure Thursday.

News of her death is spreading on Twitter as fans share their dismay, included Rev. Jesse Jackson, Sr.

According to her official website, Cole was diagnosed with kidney failure four years ago and began dialysis treatments.

She made an appeal for a kidney donor on "Larry King Live."

A nurse named Esther who once cared for Cole was watching the show with her niece at the time.

Less than two months later her niece, who was 30 years old and eight months pregnant, died unexpectedly of a stroke.

Esther offered Cole her kidney.

It was a perfect match and Cole underwent a kidney transplant.

Cole achieved stardom in 1975 with her debut album, Inseparable.

Cole went on to record "Unforgettable," a posthumous duet with her father in 1991, for which she won Record of the Year.
