National Perspective: Simmons, Cowherd, Prisco, And Greenberg On Eagles, Kelly

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia is furious at Chip Kelly.

In fact, after studying numerous internet, Twitter, and radio polls over the past two days, a small majority of fans actually want the Eagles' head coach fired today.

Nationally, Kelly continues to be one of the most polarizing figures in sports.

Bill Simmons

Simmons hosts a weekly Monday podcast, where he analyzes the betting lines of all the NFL games with Sal Iacono aka 'Cousin Sal.'

"Philly is the most confounding team of the year," Simmons said Monday on his BS Podcast. "I was fortunate to have picked against them yesterday [against the Buccaneers]. Philly has reached a point where they shouldn't be favorite by three points against any team in the league, but they also shouldn't be getting more than six points against any team in the league."

"I was surprised their defense is as bad as it is," said Sal.

"So what happens?" Simmons asked. "They sign [Colin] Kaepernick over the Spring. And then if they don't, Chip Kelly just goes back to college, or does he go back to college now?"

"I think he should do both," Sal joked.

Mike Greenberg

Greenberg, on his Mike & Mike ESPN Radio Show, said there is no way Kelly returns as Eagles' coach next season.

"Chip Kelly has less of a chance of being the coach of the Eagles than I do," Greenberg said on Monday. "There's no way in the world he's coming back.

"I think that he leaves," Greenberg continued. "It's gonna be one of those 'mutually decided it was best', because everyone in the building can't stand the sight of him. He got rid of all their good players and brought in guys who can't play at all. He brought in quarterbacks to run his system, that can't run it at all and anyone could have seen it coming. And yesterday their defense just gave up. One way or another, Chip Kelly is either going to be at USC or he is going to be at the U [University of Miami], or maybe he'll be at the Tennessee Titans where his beloved Marcus Mariota is."

Colin Cowherd

Cowherd, a big supporter of Kelly, questioned the Philly fans and media for calling for Kelly's job and pointing to the lack of talent he has had at quarterback.

"'At least in college, I can go recruit four quarterbacks a year,'" Cowherd said Monday on The Herd, pretending to be in Kelly's head. "And now the Philadelphia media is sharpening their tools and they're jabbing him in the neck."

Cowherd admitted while he doesn't believe Kelly will go back to college, he can see why the former Oregon head coach might consider it.

"You can see a scenario this [Monday] morning where he wakes up and he reads the Philadelphia papers and Philadelphia sports radio and all those meatballs are screaming for his job, and he's sitting there looking at it---I don't got a quarterback next year," Cowherd continued.

"So you can see in his mind, if Chip Kelly said, 'I could go to USC and inherit four All-Americans.'"

Pete Prisco

Prisco, a CBSSports.com senior NFL analyst, explained why Kelly the GM isn't helping Kelly the coach.

"Kelly does a lot of really good things as a coach," Prisco wrote. "I love the way he's aggressive on offense. But the dual role is too much for him or any other coach. He needs help."

Analysts and fans will continue to argue over Kelly as the season goes on. Kelly is hoping to avoid a third straight loss on Thanksgiving against the Detroit Lions.
