'Silver Surfers' Now Friending On Facebook

GLEN MILLS, Pa (CBS) - The 'silver surfer' in your life may 'friend' you on Facebook if they haven't done so already. Senior citizens are the fastest growing demographic on the social media site.

Maris Grove Retirement Community in Glen Mills offered a class on Facebook and Carol Henrich thought it would be a great idea to take the course. Henrich, 74, has a grandson moving away to college. She 'friended' him on Facebook and thinks it is the perfect way to keep in touch.

"Sometimes I think I want to give him a call and you don't know if they are studying, or in a class or whatever," Henrich said, "You can just go on and put a little message and a lot of time I go online and find that he is on chat. I just love that feature."

She also said she has connected with old friends through Facebook, but admits she is no expert. She said she is still learning and needs help from a younger person to post pictures.

"I already knew how to send pictures from my cell phone back to my computer," Henrich said, "but I did have to get my granddaughter to put it on my Facebook page."

If a class is offered on how to tweet on Twitter, Henrich said, she'll surely sign up.
