Early Birds Snag Black Friday Deals
Nicole Brewer reports...
CHERRY HILL, NJ (CBS) - Who doesn't like a good sale? They're everywhere here at the Cherry Hill Mall – 50% off or more at many stores.
Andrew from Voorhes, says he's a Black Friday veteran.
Reporter: "What have you found today?"
Andrew: "I found that coming out at my normal time of 4 a.m. didn't hinder what I was looking for"
Reporter: "What were you looking for?"
Andrew: "I was looking for some clothes on sale, the good deals at the department stores, some DVD's."
Reporter: "What stores have you hit up so far?"
Andrew: "I hit up Macy's, American Eagle, that's it so far."
Waking up a 4 a.m. the day after Thanksgiving to go shopping is a family tradition for some, a ritual online shopping just can't replace.
Stacy from Merchantville got started at 10 p.m. Thursday, "And then I left and got up again at 5 a.m. to drag my father out of bed to come with me and then we came over to the Cherry Hill Mall and we've been doing every store since."
She says this year has been a little less crowded than years past. "Predominantly because stores were open at midnight and that really kind of tapered down a lot of the amount of people around."
Linda Geis brings her daughter along for some quality time together, "It's just a fun thing that her and I do together every year, having a good time doing something different than normal daily shopping."
While some are out here to put a dent in their Christmas shopping lists, others like Emily are hitting the stores on a personal mission. She's going to, "Victoria's Secret, Sephora for some makeup, H&M to get some sweaters and stuff, but all for me."
Reporter: "No gift shopping today?"
Emily: "No, not today, I figured I have a little while before I need to worry about that."
This year is a little bit different than years past. There's been a surge in recent online sales, so retailers are looking to get a leg up by opening earlier. Some opened at midnight, others even earlier.
