WILMINGTON, Del. (CBS) -- A Philadelphia man was arrested after he crashed his car while trying to flee from a shoplifting in Delaware.
The incident began at about 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Kohl's department store in the 400 block of Rocky Run Parkway in Wilmington.
According to investigators, 47-year-old Lewis A. Maye Jr. entered the store and used a booster bag, a bag designed to evade store security sensors, to remove over $2,500 worth of merchandise from the store.
A store employee confronted Maye as he left the store, and police say Maye threatened to shoot the employee.
Maye then entered a Chevrolet Impala, and fled southwards on Concord Pike. As Maye approached the intersection of Nichols Avenue, he attempted to pass southbound cars by driving in the northbound lanes of Concord Pike, but he lost control of the car and crashed into a sign for Art Fitness.
Maye then got out of the car and ran away, but a Delaware State Trooper eventually located him hiding in the bathroom of a nearby McDonald's.
Maye was taken into custody and investigators were able to link him to an April 6th incident where Maye and another male ran out of the same Kohl's store with almost $2,000 worth of merchandise.
He has been charged with theft: organized retail crime, terroristic threatening, possession of shoplifter's tools, shoplifting over $1,500, conspiracy second degree and numerous traffic offenses. He was released after posting $3,000 secured bail.
