Shooting Suspect Arrested On I-95 After Car Chase Through Philadelphia
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A suspect in a West Philadelphia shooting led police on a car chase through Center City and onto I-95. The chase ended when the suspect rammed three police cars on I-95 near the Washington Avenue on-ramp.
The incident all started with a shooting around 3:45 a.m. on the 500 block of Paxton Street. A police officer saw the suspect flee in a silver mini-van, and he gave chase.
"The chase went through West Philly into Center City, onto Vine Street and ended up on southbound 95," Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said.
According to police, the 51-year-old suspect threw a handgun out his window and rammed three police cars before he was stopped. He tried to get away on foot, but didn't get very far. The suspect suffered minor injuries.
There were no injuries to police and only minor damage to the cop cars.
The shooting victim was hit in the knee and he is listed in stable condition at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
There were lane closures for two hours, but the traffic delays as a result of this incident have been cleared up.
