Share Your Harvest With Philabundance

By Phran Novelli

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - What are you going to do with all that? If you're growing fruits and vegetables, at some point, you'll probably have more than you can eat.

So, don't let it go to waste, every Saturday from 9am to 12 noon, through September, you can drop off extra produce at designated garden centers across the Delaware Valley for Philabundance to distribute to community food pantries. In fact, lots of gardeners 'sow an extra row' to donate. Last year donations totaled 6,800 pounds!

One thing that's certainly growing is the need - up 23 percent over last year. While at the same time produce prices are rising, making it even harder for many families to afford fresh fruit and vegetables. So, Share the Harvest if you can.

If you aren't a gardener but you'd still like to help, go to Philabundance.org, or email volunteer@philabundance.org because Philabundance is looking for volunteers for each Saturday to greet gardeners at each drop-off spot and help deliver the donated produce to nearby food pantries.
