Sexual Assault Survivor Creates Program To Help Students Deal With Difficult Situation

By Kim Glovas

PHILADELPHIA (CBS)--A woman raped 23 years ago as a college freshman has turned her life around and is now speaking to professionals who handle sexual assault cases.

She's created a program to help high school and college students deal with difficult situations.

Katie Koestner went from rape victim to survivor, and now she speaks to police officers, detectives, teachers and counselors about her experience and the experiences of other rape survivors across the country.

This past week she spoke at the Radnor Township Administration building to about 100 people.

Koestner asked detectives this: "When you hear the victim tell the story, your body language, the expression on your face, do you like tired, do you look interested, do your eyes shift to the side yourself? What are you looking at when you hear the story?"

Candice Linehan, with Delaware County Women Against Rape, had this reaction after Koestner's presentation:

"Refreshing, and it brought awareness to the community and you know that's important."

Koestner's programs are on line at: http://www.campusoutreach.org/
