Severe Storms Cause Flooding, Outages, Delays
PHILADELPHIA (CBS/AP) — Severe storms are causing minor flooding problems that have delayed SEPTA trains in Philadelphia and prompted a tornado warning in at least one southeastern Pennsylvania county and one county in Delaware.
The tornado warning was issued about 7 a.m. for Chester County, as well as nearby New Castle, Del. That later expired.
Multiple outages throughout Delaware, NJ and the Philadelphia area were also reported.
SEPTA customers on all Regional Rail lines may experience residual delays of up to 30 minutes, due to earlier weather-related problems. Also, service on the Manayunk/Norristown Line continues to operate between Center City and the Miquon Station only. Service between Miquon and Elm Street stations remains suspended.
Philadelphia International Airport was reporting arrival delays, but noted that departures will most likely be affected as well as the day goes on.
In New Jersey, Route 42 was reportedly closed in both directions near 295 due to flooding as of 9:15 a.m. Route 130 in Gloucester City was also flood, and traffic was being diverted as of 10 a.m.
In Norristown, Elmwood Park, Main & Markley and the DeKalb Street underpass were all hard-hit by flooding. All of Harding Boulevard was closed and most of Markley Street impassable as of 7:30 a.m.
In Newark, Del., Routes 40, 896 and 72 are affected by power outages, lights out and flooding that's causing traffic delays. Roads in Wilmington were also affected by flooding, and motorists were being urged to use caution and alternate routes when necessary.
And in Montgomery County, NJ, Trooper Road and Van Buren Avenue were closed due to flooding.
There were also reports of several trees down, including in Bucks County, in Radnor Township and in Philadelphia at 10th and Pine.
Crews were also monitoring issues on I-76. About a foot of water was reported just west of Valley Forge approaching Route 29 at Exit 320, and mudslide was cleared at milepost 318 on Interstate 76 westbound.
