PHILADELPHIA (CBS) –- Five students are being suspended from Overbrook High School and facing charges in connection with a fight in a first-floor hallway late this morning.
School District of Philadelphia spokesman Fernando Gallard says the incident began about 11:45am inside Overbrook High.
"An attempted robbery, a strong-arm robbery, no weapons involved, and it led to a fight between students at the school," Gallard tells KYW Newsradio, who says two school security officers responded to break up the melee.
"They were in the midst of breaking up the fight and they received minor injuries," Gallard says. "We also have one individual, one student, that received minor injuries. They were all treated at the school."
Gallard says that in addition to the school suspensions, the five students will be charged by Philadelphia police in connection with inciting or taking part in the disturbance, including the individual behind the robbery attempt.
