Philadelphia Deputy Commissioner Testifies In Seth Williams Trial

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A top Philadelphia cop testified Monday morning in the federal corruption and bribery trial involving Philadelphia District Attorney Seth Williams.

After taking the witness stand, he spoke to reporters outside the courthouse.

Now a deputy commissioner, Joseph Sullivan was chief inspector in 2011 in charge of Homeland Security when he was asked by the DA to help Mohammed Ali get through secondary airport screenings. Williams told Sullivan he believed Ali was being racially targeted.

Sullivan testified that he had another officer help Ali as he flew back from Punta Cana in 2012 -- a flight Williams was also on.

"I was shocked," said Sullivan.

Sullivan spoke to reporters outside the courthouse and said Williams never told him he was that flight also.

Sullivan testified that he, Ali and Williams met at the Union League in 2013, as requested by the DA. Sullivan went and said the meeting left him uncomfortable.

"I just felt something wasn't right and I thought the best course of action was to run that through my counterparts here at the FBI," said Sullivan.

He was told by the feds to leave Ali's case alone and he said he relayed the same information to Williams.

"I just know that I fulfilled my responsibility to him, and thanks to the relationships I had with the other federal agencies, the right information eventually came to light," said Sullivan.

Williams has denied any wrongdoing.
