Sestak-Toomey Square Off In Philadelphia
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The men who would be the next U.S. Senator from Pennsylvania squared off in their first debate Wednesday night at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia.
Boiled-down, this is message that Democratic Congressman Joe Sestak and Republican Pat Toomey apparently wanted you to hear:
(Sestak:) "The Bush-Toomey era..."
(Toomey:) "Sestak and other liberals..."
But the two did delve a bit deeper:
(Sestak:) "We have to get our economy going, and that's the number one issue for us."
(Toomey:) "And Joe thinks you do that by huge new tax increases, including taxes on consumer goods, including all kinds of taxes that he's already voted for..."
(Sestak:) "Sounds like my parrot at home: again and again, but offering no solutions."
On gun control, Sestak says he respects the second amendment, but believes community safety and that of law enforcers must be taken into account. Toomey touts his endorsement from the state Fraternal Order of Police, and says that speaks for itself.
