Sestak, Toomey Spar Over Spending
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The candidates for the U.S. senate from Pennsylvania squared off in a debate on Friday and the tone of the debate was as negative as the overall campaign has been.
"This has to come to an end. Once again, Congressman Toomey, can't you tell the truth."
An irritated Joe Sestak accused Republican Pat Toomey of distorting his record as the candidates sparred over federal spending.
Toomey repeatedly called Sestak's position extreme, but Sestak, himself, was not above oversimplifying Toomey's position, repeatedly telling viewers Toomey wanted to eliminate all corporate taxes, drawing an exasperated response from Toomey:
"To pay for it he says we should borrow from China...okay... hubub."
Neither candidate departed far from his script and the debate revealed little new about either man.
