SEPTA Won't Run Extra Regional Rail Trains After Parkway Music Shows

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The City of Philadelphia is encouraging people heading to this weekend's "Made in America" concerts on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway to take public transportation.
But SEPTA says you may not want to count on the regional rail system to get home.
SEPTA says its Broad Street subway line and the Market-Frankford subway-elevated are the way to go for the "Made in America" shows.
But the regional rails? Not so much. SEPTA assistant GM Ron Hopkins says that's because the rails will be on weekend staffing.
And while there will be a few extra cars per train, they're not planning on extra trains.
"The reason we're staying away from (suggesting) our regional rail system -- we're trying to encourage people to our subway system -- is really more because of the capacity and the number of trains that we run after 11 o'clock (PM) on our regional rails," Hopkins tells KYW Newsradio.
Hopkins says that SEPTA can run trains every five minutes on the Broad Street line or the el. He says there will be extra trains on the Broad Street line on Sunday to accommodate the Parkway crowd (see related story) and the Bruce Springsteen show at Citizens Bank Park.
