SEPTA Soon Getting New General Manager
By Lynne Adkins
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- SEPTA will get a new man at the top who is now stranger to the system.
Fifty-two-year old Jeffrey Knueppel started at SEPTA nearly three decades ago as an entry level structural engineer. He's currently the deputy general manager and will take over the GM spot from Joseph Casey, who is retiring at the end of September. He knows those are big shoes to fill.
"I'm following a very successful general manager," Knueppel says. "The people here, the team that I have, is going to build on the successes of Joe Casey's time as GM, especially in terms of putting the customer first. That's going to have to be something that we stay on top of."
He says under his leadership the transit agency will continue to work on replacing older vehicles and rebuilding the infrastructure.
"We have a lot of retirements at SEPTA. We're rebuilding our workforce, Knueppel says. "One of our biggest challenges is rebuilding the system. We're moving on new vehicle purchases and infrastructure projects all over the system."
Knueppel begins his new position as general manager on October 1.
