SEPTA Shares Specifics On Transit Plan In Days Leading Up To Papal Visit
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- SEPTA has announced new specifics of regarding its transit plans in the two days leading up to the Pope's visit to Philadelphia.
The plans cover the period after 10 p.m. on Thursday, September 24, when the Secret Service begins imposing a no-car zone in a large area around the Ben Franklin Parkway and Independence Hall.
At that time, SEPTA trains will begin running on a weekend schedule, with all stations active except Suburban Station near City Hall.
The special Papal weekend passes on the Regional Rails will not be needed during that time.
Subways and trolleys will run on a normal schedule, with all stations active except 15th Street and City Hall stations.
These restrictions will be in effect from Thursday at 10 p.m through the end of Friday.
Starting on Saturday morning, SEPTA will start its previously-announced reduced schedule that will necessitate the special passes on the trains.Subways and trolleys will continue running, and buses will face detours in the Center City district.
Officials say buses will get as close to the no-vehicle boundary as possible to drop passengers.
