Commuters And Travelers Can Expect Snow-related Delays

By Pat Ciarrocchi, Al Novack and Chelsea Karnash

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – With more than a foot of snow covering the ground, commuters should be prepared for delays on Wednesday.

Passengers on all SEPTA Regional Rail lines may experience delays of about 30 minutes. Bus route 35 (Manayunk/Roxborough Loop) remains suspended until further notice due to weather conditions. Service on bus routes 97 and 132 resumed as of 6 a.m. All other buses are operating, some with weather-related detours and delays. As of 4:30 p.m., trolley service on Routes 101 and 102 are operating with shuttle buses. Delays are expected.

"We've been working around the clock. We opened a command center yesterday at 8:30 in the morning, and it's going to continue open until we feel comfortable that service has resumed to normal," says Jim Fox, the head of SEPTA's control center. "We just basically continue to monitor the whole activity."

"As of the morning rush, we anticipate all our services will be up and running," Fox added.

CCT will provide full service Wednesday; however, customers should be prepared for delays due to icy conditions and snow accumulations. Service restrictions may be necessary if conditions deteriorate during the day. CCT passengers should call 215-580-7720 for the status of pending trips or to cancel their trip.

In NJ, Patco trains are operating every 10 minutes. NJ Transit trains are running on a modified weekend schedule with delays. NJ Transit will honor all tickets across the system.

At Philadelphia International Airport, spokesperson Victoria Lupica says there are about 100 cancellations and at least a dozen delays. Overnight, the airport provided hospitality for 155 passengers who were stranded. Travelers are urged to contact their airline or the airport website for delay information.

Meanwhile, driving restrictions have been lifted on the Pennsylvania Turnpike. At 10 a.m., Gov. Markell lifted driving restrictions in Delaware. DART buses are also running in Delaware, but with delays.

"If you do not need to be out on the roads this morning, please don't drive," said Governor Markell. "This gives DelDOT the space it needs to get its work done and will help keep you safe."

And in Philadelphia, a snow emergency remains in effect. Cars parked on snow emergency routes are being ticketed and towed. If your car was towed, you're asked to call 215-686-SNOW.
