Septa Inaugurates Work on New Bus Interchange Station in North Philly

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Septa today broke ground, ceremonially, on a $1.7-million bus loop improvement project in a North Philadelphia neighborhood.
"Septa loves to rebuild bus loops," says Septa deputy general manager Jeffrey Knueppel, who notes that this project, at Hunting Park and Wissahickon Avenues, in the Allegheny West neighborhood, was made possible by bringing an earlier bus loop improvement in $1.4 million under budget.
US Congressman Chaka Fattah (D-Pa.) hailed a pattern.
"We've got bus loops going on all throughout North Philadelphia," he said today. "The revitalization of the subway trains stops at Cecil B. Moore and along the Broad Street Line."
Knueppel described what this latest project will bring:
"An additional platform in the center -- that will give more capacity. There are shelters over top, to protect the riders while they're waiting. We've got a lot of greenery. It'll look great here as well."

This loop serves four transit routes and about 5,000 daily riders. The upgrade is expected to be finished next year.
