Septa Expands Its High-Tech Customer Notification Options

SEPTA is now going beyond Twitter, taking part in the "Ready Notify PA" text and e-mail alert system.

KYW's Mike Dunn reports that Septa has been "tweeting" transit alerts since last year,  but now those messages will also be carried on the   regional "Ready Notify PA" system.

Ron Hopkins is chief officer at SEPTA's control center:

"Our biggest goal is to type the message once and then have it go out to multiple sources."

With Septa's Twitter feed, every subscriber gets each and every Septa alert.   With the Ready Notify PA system, you can specify that you want alerts only for the type of mass transit you're riding:

"If you're only a Broad Street Subway rider and something happens on a Regional Rail, you will not get that alert."

You can also choose whether you want the alerts 24/7, or just during weekday business hours.

Ready Notify PA also includes alerts from the City of Philadelphia, Penndot, and state police.

To sign up, go to septa.org/ready.
