Road Closures Begin Ahead Of Schedule In Center City

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Road closures in center city began ahead of schedule Friday.

Road Closures in Center City in effect starting Friday. East bound and west bound at Broad Street. East bound and west bound on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, and east bound at 8th street.

In addition, several road closures and SEPTA station closures go into effect Thursday night.

The secure perimeter and the secure vehicle perimeters  go into effect at 10 p.m.

SEPTA says the closure of Suburban Station, City Hall, the 15th St complex, and 5th St is 10 p.m. Thursday and the closure will continue on Friday and throughout the weekend.  All stations will reopen on Monday.

 

 

SEPTA also says the following bus routes are on detour until 10 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 25:

2, 4, 7, 9, 12, 16, 17, 21, 23, 27, 31, 32, 33, 38, 42, 43, 44, 47, 47M, 48, 57, 61, 62, 78, 124, 125, Broad Street Line Night Owl and Market-Frankford Line Night Owl.

 

Also for SEPTA:

  • Riders need to have the special One-Day Papal Pass to ride Regional Rail and the specifically stamped Three-Day Papal Pass to ride the Norristown High Speed Line and the Trolley Routes 101/102. For the Broad Street, Market-Frankford Lines, buses and trolleys riders can use the special Three-Day Papal Pass, TransPasses or tokens.

 

  • On Friday, September 25, all Regional Rail Lines will operate on a Saturday schedule with enhancements to the Cynwyd and Wilmington/Newark Lines. All other modes will operate on regular weekday schedules. For a list of bus detours, visit www.septa.org.

 

  • Starting 10 p.m. Friday, SEPTA.org will switch to an all-Papal Visit travel website http://www.septa.org/papalvisitphilly to accommodate visitors and regular customers who need transit information for Sept. 26-27.

 

  • Regional Rail passengers coming onto Philadelphia during the Papal visit weekend will be dropped them off at either Jefferson, University City or 30th Street Stations. They will need to go back to those specific stations to get on a train to go back home. Each line has a designated Center City station, so riders must "Get on where you got off."

 

  • On Saturday and Sunday, 8th Street on the Market-Frankford Line will be open during most of the day, but will close at 7 p.m.  Riders leaving the Papal events will be directed to 2nd Street Station.

 

  • On Monday, September 28,  all Regional Rail Lines will operate on a Saturday schedule with some enhancements to the Cynwyd and Wilmington/Newark Lines. Regular service will resume on the Norristown High Speed, Trolley Routes 101/102, Broad Street and Market-Frankford Lines and city trolleys - all stations will be open. Bus service will have some detours, especially in the vicinity of the Parkway may still be in place. Please check System Status for up to the minute information.
