SEPTA Consolidating Bus Stops Along Route 47
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - SEPTA is consolidating bus stops along one of its major routes to improve service and reliability. It's called the Route 47 Service Enhancement Pilot Project.
The City of Philadelphia and SEPTA expect by consolidating and relocating some bus stops along a portion of Route 47 it will help speed travel along the congested streets with little inconvenience to passengers.
The route spans 10 miles through south Philadelphia, Center City and North Philadelphia. SEPTA spokesman Andrew Busch says about half of the stops between Oregon Avenue and Market Street along 7th and 8th Streets have been eliminated.
"Essentially where there was a stop every block, now it's every two blocks."
And buses will be dispatched every 6 minutes during the rush hours. Busch says if the changes work it could be applied to other routes, but there are no solid plans for that at this time.
