SEPTA Biding Its Time For State Funding as Pa. Rushes New Budget Into Law
By Kim Glovas
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Pennsylvania's state budget bill, signed into law last night by Gov. Tom Corbett (see related story), didn't include mass transit funding.
Today, a SEPTA spokeswoman says the transit agency wasn't expecting the state legislature to approve transportation funding before the end of the state's fiscal year, June 30th.
But spokeswoman Jerri Williams says the agency is hopeful that a funding package will be delivered in the fall.
"We know our needs and we're expressing our needs, and we're pretty optimistic that in the end we'll get what we need," she said today.
As for whether it will be in the current form or something completely different, Williams says it's too early in the process to know.
"That is something that it's too early to talk about. The vote was just yesterday, everybody is still looking at it and discussing it. We're just going to remain optimistic that our basic needs are going to be met."
