Senior Citizens Collect Turkish Towels For a New SPCA Center in Bucks County, Pa.

WARMINSTER, Pa. (CBS) -- Hundreds of bath towels have been collected at a Bucks County retirement community to help a newly opened animal shelter get off to a good start.
The gently used towels, which will used at the newly opened Upper Bucks County SPCA in Quakertown, were stuffed into nearly 100 large trash bags.
Joan Greenburg (at far right in top photo), a resident at Ann's Choice, helped organize the collection.
"We set up stations in each of our clubhouse lobbies," she tells KYW Newsradio. "We have three clubhouses, so people can just drop them off 24 hours a day. We ran this one for about five days and we were really overwhelmed at the response."
As residents folded and packed the towels with some of their dogs lounging nearby -- or even in the baskets of towels -- the Phillie Phanatic made an appearance to entertain the crowd (right).
