Sen. Casey Hopeful That Government Brinksmanship Won't Repeat in 2014

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The deal is done and the government shutdown is over (see related story). But what's to say there won't be another showdown in a few months?
The deal funds the government only through mid-January, and allows the nation to borrow through February 7th.
So, will there be a repeat shutdown?
Speaking to reporters today at 30th Street Station, US senator Bob Casey (D-Pa.) said he drew some confidence from the fact that even conservative Republicans were eventually able to agree to a bipartisan plan to end the shutdown.
"In the House, you had more than a third of the Republicans voting for this compromise," Casey noted. "In the Senate you had about half the Republican caucus in the Senate voting for it. That's good news."
Casey said he hoped the fact that the nation could be taken to the brink of default by a faction who "hijacked" the GOP would serve as a wake-up call for both parties.
