Seinfeld's ''Soup Nazi'' Visits A Philadelphia Soup Bar
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A restaurant on the edge of Northern Liberties specializing in soup had a famous guest visiting today.
Doc's Gourmet Soup Bar, at 169 West Girard Avenue, had a special guest serving up soup. Larry Thomas, the actor who popularized the "Soup Nazi" character on the Seinfeld TV show, is a friend of the owner.
In the TV sitcom, his soup is good but his customer relations is not.
"No soup for you!"
But today, Thomas was his real-life, charming self.
"Today we're serving mulligatawny, which is the Indian curry soup that nobody knows about, and we have a vegetable jambalaya and turkey chili," he told visitors.
Did he ever imagine that the "soup nazi" was going to be the defining character of his acting career?
"I didn't think so at the time I did it, but it's beginning to look like that," he said today.
Then, he slips easily back into character when asked the recipe for his soup:
"That I will NOT tell you!!"
Thomas was scheduled to be at Doc's until 8pm Friday evening.
