Seeking The Right Medical Coverage For College Students
As your college student heads off this semester, make sure he or she has the right medical insurance.
KYW's Lynne Adkins reports the best and often cheapest way to provide medical insurance for your student is through your employer's provided coverage, but Melissa Fox, a spokeswoman for the Pennsylvania Insurance Department, says there can be problems:
"If you stay on your parents plan and you attend college away from home or out-of-state, you do run the risk of not having access to the provider network that you already have, you can but a supplemental policy if necessary."
You can also buy insurance from many universities or buy private coverage for your student, since he's young, that can be quite affordable, unless he has a pre-existing condition such as asthma.
