Security Will Be Tighter at This Year's Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- With the memories of Monday's bombings at the Boston Marathon still fresh, security protocols are being reviewed for major public events from coast to coast, including next week's Penn Relays at Franklin Field.
Security has always been tight since the 9/11 terrorist attacks: bag searches, magnetic wanding, and patdowns when warranted.
But now, event director Dave Johnson says, meetings are being held to ratchet things up even more.
"Conversations are ongoing and security will be tighter than it has been in the past," Johnson (right) tells KYW Newsradio, "but any specifics to be discussed right now would be premature."
Still, Johnson assures the tens of thousands expected that every effort will be made to assure their safety.
Attendees can help by showing up a little earlier than normal, and being prepared to be a little more patient in line.
