UPenn Security Guard Hit By Drunk Driver In University City

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Police say a drunk driver hit a private University of Pennsylvania security guard who was walking the beat on a sidewalk near 38th and Walnut early this morning.

Accident investigators say the driver lost control of his car at about 1:30 a.m. and went up onto the sidewalk and struck the security guard first and then came to rest when he slammed into a Parking Authority parking kiosk.

Police say the impact threw the officer onto the hood of the car and he slammed into the front windshield.

The victim was admitted to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania where he's in stable condition with a concussion.

The driver was arrested and has been charged with DUI. He remains in custody.
