Second Alleged Rape Of Temple Student Under Investigation

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia Police now confirm that a second Temple University student has reported she was raped in her apartment near campus.

Captain John Darby says the Special Victims Unit is investigating what he called an allegation of an acquaintance rape that allegedly occurred November 11 and was reported to Temple Police one week later.

On Monday, CBS 3 first reported that two members of Temple's football team were being investigated for an alleged acquaintance rape Saturday inside a Temple dorm.

Capt. Darby says no charges have been filed and that alcohol was involved in both incidents.

Sources tell CBS 3 one of the two players is also under investigation in the November 11 apartment incident.

Temple officials, beyond saying they are providing protection for their students, refused comment on the investigations. A university spokesperson also refused to reveal if any football players were being investigated in either incident or if they had been disciplined.

Capt. Darby publicly revealed the Temple student who claims she was raped November 11 has indicated she does not want to be interviewed by Philadelphia Police or have any other involvement with the investigation.

Darby says when all evidence is gathered on both cases, it will be forwarded to the Philadelphia District Attorney's office who will then decide if charges will be filed in either case.
