Seaside Boardwalk Fire Demolition Expected To Be Complete By December
SEASIDE HEIGHTS, N.J. (AP) — The tear-down and cleanup from the massive Jersey shore boardwalk fire is making good progress, and the work should be done by the end of November.
Heavy equipment is hard at work tearing down and scooping up the charred remnants of a Sept. 12 fire that burned more than four blocks of boardwalk in Seaside Heights and Seaside Park.
Michael Loundy, a Seaside Heights official, says about 15 percent of the project is completed. He says some of the more visible work, like tearing down burned buildings, has been done.
But other work including removing debris from in and under sand, and ripping out pilings, still remains.
Tourists, including some who came earlier this year to gawk at damage from Superstorm Sandy, now have new rubble to photograph.
