Police: Body Washes Ashore In Wildwood Crest
ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (CBS) — A body washed ashore Sunday afternoon not far from where a swimmer disappeared Saturday night in Wildwood.
The body is confirmed to be 24-year-old Christian Alfred, who disappeared around 7 p.m Saturday while swimming near Rio Grande Avenue in Wildwood.
Witnesses say Alfred began to struggle in the water and did not resurface.
Crews from the Coast Guard and New Jersey State Police searched for Alfred by helicopter and boat throughout the night, but eventually suspended their efforts around 10 a.m. Sunday.
Police say a few hours later a body washed up in Wildwood Crest at Buttercup Avenue.
Authorities say Alfred was a Miami native who was attending school in New York City.
