Science Leadership Academy Introduces Students To Computer Programming
By Ian Bush
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Could your child be the next Mark Zuckerberg or Bill Gates? Students at the Science Leadership Academy in Philadelphia are trying their hand at computer programming this week.
SLA is among the schools across the country offering special activities during this Computer Science Education Week.
"Students who wouldn't normally get computer science -- at least not at this age, and most don't know what computer science is -- program for an hour. Or get a little taste of what computer science has to offer."
Mark Miles is doing an Hour of Code with his classes, where the kids learn through games and dragging-and-dropping the basics of computer languages -- with tangible results:
"Doing animations, producing interactive things -- always very visual stuff."
Like app creation or gaming -- something to spark their interest now that could lead to a bright future in a booming industry.
