Schools In Bucks, Montgomery Counties Close Ahead Of Anticipated Nor'easter
BENSALEM, Pa. (CBS) -- Bucks County is buckling down as a powerful Nor'easter is moving into southeastern Pennsylvania. The suburbs are predicted to get a good blast of winter weather in the next 48 hours. The snow began to fall in Bensalem just after 12 p.m. Sunday.
Last-minute shoppers were out as the flakes began flying in Bensalem.
"This is the only time they had available to pick up groceries," Joe Valerino of Northeast Philadelphia said.
Some were happy to see the snow.
"It's been such a crazy 12 months that some normalcy, which is snow in January or February, I guess now, is nice to get," Jose Irizarry of Yardley said.
Others, not so much.
"Horrible. The Turnpike, horrible," one man said.
"It's going to make driving tough and getting out of the house tough," another man said.
The plows were out along Street Road and so was this guy, who grew up close to Siberia.
"That's a beautiful summer day in Russia," he said.
As for everybody else?
"I'm really wishing for warmer weather. This is crazy," a man said.
Here in Bucks County, major districts like Bensalem, Neshaminy and Council Rock have already canceled school for Monday.
A snow emergency is also in place for most townships, meaning you can't park on the streets overnights to make sure the plows are able to get through.
As the snow continues to fall, it's likely to be a long night for those plow teams across Bucks County.
Meanwhile, in Montgomery County, the Cheltenham School District is giving students a snow day Monday, Feb. 1.
"Due to the possibility of power and internet outages, instead of pivoting to all-remote instruction, the district will utilize one of the traditional snow days built into the 2020-2021 academic calendar," Superintendent Dr. Wagner Marseille said.
The district was set to begin hybrid instruction on Monday.
All activities are canceled, and all buildings will be closed.
