Sandberg On Team's Memorial Day Rebound: 'The Guys Really Came Back After Being No-Hit And Did Something About It'
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Phillies Manager Ryne Sandberg talked with Chris Stigall on Talk Radio 1210 WPHT about the team's Memorial Day victory over the Colorado Rockies.
Sandberg said he was happy with how the team rebounded after being no-hit on Sunday by Dodgers pitcher Josh Beckett.
"The guys really came back after being no-hit and did something about it. We came out right away and put some hits on the board to loosen everybody up and then we got the big hits, we got the base runners. Ryan Howard with five RBI and Mayberry Jr. with a pinch hit two run homer, but a lot of good stuff in between with Utley and Rollins up and down the lineup. That's what I was looking for," he stated.
He commented that the team is getting production from the familiar faces they need to carry them through the season, starting with Chase Utley.

"He continues to swing a good bat. He's really racking up the doubles. I think he has about 20 doubles at least. That's a good power stroke for him…He continues to be hot. Jimmy Rollins continues to play good baseball and get on base. It's good to see Ryan Howard with that type of a game. That could be something that gets him going in the right direction," Sandberg said.
Sandberg also acknowledged that he's seen the bit of Jon Stewart attacking him, the Phillie Phanatic, and the entire city of Philadelphia when he fell ill after eating at a hamburger restaurant inside Citi Field in New York.
"He's great and I thought it was very funny. I also liked after it was all done and the cheesesteak was sitting right next to him, he said 'I love those,'"
