Sales Of Camden Waterfront Parking For Papal Visit Off To Sluggish Start

By Mike DeNardo

CAMDEN, NJ (CBS) -- Sales of Camden's waterfront parking spaces for the papal visit are off to a slow start.

Last week, Camden officials announced that 8,500 parking spaces formerly reserved for tour buses were available for the private cars of papal pilgrims at $44 apiece. So far, 200 of them have sold.

Bernard Craighead, a partner at Easyphiladelphia.com, the firm managing the sales, says he expects a late surge as the papal visit approaches.

"The upward slope of the curve increases each day. So, the closer you get to the event, people will say, 'Oh, I haven't gotten my parking done.' So each day I think this will pick up."

Craighead says he's contacted churches from Rhode Island to Maryland, and he expects the Camden parking will fill up when all is said and done.
