Salaries Holding Up For Some Jobs Despite Recession
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Managers and those with certain professional occupations continue to do well, even in the economic downturn.
A recent wage report by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics for the Philadelphia region shows doctors, engineers, big-company managers, and those in the biological or life sciences field are holding their own when it comes to good salaries.
"The sorts of salaries that you tend to see there range from just about a $100,000 a year on average to about a $150,000 a year on average."
Dr. Kevin Clark, associate dean of Villanova University's business school, says there's a message in the data for those who find themselves unemployed and considering a return to the classroom.
"Folks who are considering re-educating themselves or retraining, it would be worth their while to take a look at the Bureau of Labor Statistics data and look more specifically at jobs and sectors where they could anticipate making the good money or good return on that educational investment."
He says there's a treasure trove of information in the latest report that can actually give the reader a snapshot of what professions are paying well and which ones are not.
